New England certainly stole a victory from the clutches of defeat on Sunday, coming back from a 28-3 deficit in the 3rd quarter to win a championship in the only overtime game in Super Bowl history – but it wasn’t the only theft of the evening.
Someone swiped game MVP Tom Brady’s jersey during the locker room celebration.
Now, the Texas Rangers have officially joined the search for the jersey worn by the star quarterback. The Rangers are assisting Houston police in tracking down the item as, according to Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, it is “already being called the most valuable NFL collectible ever. ” Patrick, concerned that history will show that the jersey was stolen in Texas, personally asked the Rangers to work with the Houston Police Department in finding the jersey.
For his part, Brady announced to reporters that he put the jersey in his bag on Sunday night, and later it was gone. “If it shows up on eBay somewhere, someone let me know.” he quipped. The video below captures the moment that Brady told Robert Kraft that the jersey was missing, as the team owner was handing out victory cigars to players.
