I was really young when I first heard ABBA, my parents took my sister and I to the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver to see Mamma Mia!
I don’t remember how old I was, only that it was an amazing experience…the costumes, the cast, and of course the music.
When I got home I rummaged through my parents cd collection in search of the Swedish group they had told me about.(It took me a while to understand that these songs were not written specifically for the performance we had just seen.)
I must have been the only one of my friends listening to ABBA, everyone else was pretty obsessed with The Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, and Brittney Spears.
But this was my jam. It also turned me on to so many other classic artists like Fleetwood Mac, CCR, and Cat Stevens.
To this day, I still play Chiquitita for my friends when they go through a break up.
