Add a certain furry friend to the number of Americans who stand to be affected by the Trump administration’s proposed budget cuts.
A recent viral video (thank goodness this is a parody and our favorite red monster still appears to actually be employed) has Sesame Street’s Elmo being laid off from the Children’s Television Workshop. Part of the plan of Trump’s controversial cuts include reduced funding for the Corportation for Public Broadcasting, which could translate to a slash in PBS’s budget….thus, the spin on how painful the cuts could be.
Check out poor Elmo’s sour meeting here…
It should be noted that PBS and Sesame Street’s relationship has changed over the last few years. New episodes of Sesame Street currently air on HBO, a network to which low-income families can’t afford to access. However, PBS does air reruns, and receives funding to produce the show through a partnership with HBO.
Last week, Trump announced plans to cut and eliminate funding for programs the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which provides support to PBS. The cuts would fund his 2.8 billion dollar budget for immigration spending, including a 2.6 billion dollar border wall.
…perhaps we can include Sesame Street’s Count in the discussion. I’m sure HE would be the first to admit that this nonsense doesn’t ‘add up’. ~ Jason
