Today is National Beer Day, and no, I didn’t just make it up because it’s Friday and I would very much like a brew.
Usually these “days” that we celebrate are a bit ridiculous and don’t have a lot of meaning, but April 7th truly is National Beer Day and I will tell you why.
On March 22, 1933, Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the legislation allowing people to buy, sell, and drink beer containing alcohol. The law went into effect on April 7th that year and people across the country responded by gathering outside breweries, some the night before, wanting to buy beer.
On the first day, 1.5 million barrels of beer were consumed, which inspired the holiday, oh by the way, April 6th is known as New Beer’s Eve, how great is that?!?
Food and Wine has a useful history on some of your favourite beers, so you can read up and drop some knowledge on your beer loving friends this evening. You can read the story here.
In addition to celebrating our southern friends lifted prohibition, you can check out this amazing product from Swedish brewery PangPang called Shower Beer.
It’s exactly what it sounds like, a beer you enjoy in the shower. It’s a very strong 10% pale ale in a bottle a little bit larger than 6oz.
According to their website the first batch sold out instantly at the first release party, but the 2nd is in the brewery tanks.
So how will you be enjoying National Beer Day?
