… But she still can’t take a note
I’m afraid Siri doesn’t really do anything very well. Apple has always marketed her as a personal assistant who can really help boost productivity. I always thought it was a matter of training her properly. I thought eventually, if I talked to her enough, she would become the assistant of my dreams. In my dream, Siri is able to “take a note” instead of telling me what she was able to look up on “break an oath.“ Instead of texting my wife “Finished shopping. On my way home.” Siri will text my wife “Finnish toppings. Did you call Harold?”
There may be hope for Siri, in light of this story of how she saved lives in Florida over the weekend. Usually, Florida tells us the story of the man who tried to marry a baby alligator, or the criminal who was foiled by his love of chicken fingers while trying to rob the convenience store.
In this story, from Fox 4 three men were boating off the coast of Florida, when their boat began taking on enough water to sink. Life jackets on and boat going down, their fingers were too cold and wet to use the touchscreen properly. In a moment of clarity, they were able to use Siri to call 911 and be rescued by the Coast Guard.
If Siri had to pick one thing to do really well, I think we can all agree that saving lives is a good choice.
