The painting, ‘Mr Pynchon and the Settling of Springfield’ was committed to canvas in 1937 by Italian painter, Umberto Romano. It depicts two Native American tribes and British settlers meeting for the first time in Massachusetts around the year 1630.
Now, obviously smartphones weren’t around way back them. Why then does one of several men depicted in the artwork appear to be gazing at one??
Another dude, tied to a pole, even appears to be leaning over to get a look at the guy’s latest Tweet.
Historians have suggested the item is probably a blade or a mirror – both far more likely to appear than a time-travelling cellular device. But still…..it IS a little eerie. What do you think? Does that appear to be a smartphone? Doc Brown, what havoc hast thou wrought? ~ Jason
