Activists raising awareness about missing and murdered women will hold an event in the North Okanagan later today.
Spokesperson Meagan Louis says they will be dropping a banner on a washed-out bridge on Haywood Road near Salmon River Road in Silver Creek at 5:30 pm in honour of Ashley Simpson’s 33rd birthday this week.
“That’s not too far from where two women have gone missing, Ashley Simpson and Deanna Wurtz, so we just want to keep the community…keep their eyes open to the cause, as well as keep their missing presence relevant in the media,” Louis tells Kiss FM.
Louis says the banner that will be put up reads “No more stolen sisters.”
Simpson and Deanna Wurtz haven’t been seen since last year.
A caravan will follow the banner drop going to Enderby and Sicamous where flyers will be handed out on Nicole Bell who went missing 14 months ago.
Bell’s family is expected to attend the banner drop.
A celebration of life will be held next Tuesday at 1 pm at Vernon’s Upper Room Mission to remember Traci Genereaux, an 18 year old who’s remains were found by police at a farm on Salmon River Road Oct 21.
No charges have been laid in connection with the discovery.
