It’s been a busy year for drug overdoses in Vernon.
Statistics from Interior Health show 303 have been reported to the agency by Vernon Jubilee Hospital or paramedics to the end of October.
That’s second only in Interior Health to the 341 reported by Kelowna General Hospital.
Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops has had 174, and Penticton Regional Hospital has seen 171.
The stats don’t include all overdoses in the community, just the ones reported to IH’s medical health officer.
Vernon has had 17 fatal drug overdoses this year, while Kelowna has had 63.
Interior Health says almost half of the people who have overdosed this year were using heroin (47%), followed by illicit stimulants (21%) and alcohol (17%).
Sixty four percent of the overdose victims this year have been males.
