It’s a battle that has raged for centuries; dogs versus cats in the arena of intelligence. Oh, we all have OPINIONS as to the victor. But we might finally have some solid evidence to suggest a winner.
A new study by Vanderbilt University has revealed that the more intelligent creature IS….
The reason? Dogs possess 530 million neurons while cats have only 250 million in their brain. A human brain, by comparison, has 16 billion neurons.
Lead researcher Herculano Houzel tells the Daily Mail, “It’s our belief that the absolute number of neurons an animal has, especially in the cerebral cortex, determines the richness of their internal mental state and their ability to predict what is about to happen in their environment based on past experience. We now have some biology that people can factor into their discussions about who’s smarter, cats or dogs.”
