It was the venue for Super Bowls, concerts, it once hosted the Pope…heck, even Hulk Hogan battled Andre The Giant in front of 93,000 strong. And if THAT bout didn’t bring the house down, why did they figure a ton of explosives could??
On Sunday morning, the demolition of Detroit’s Pontiac Silverdome began with a partian implosion that was supposed to bring down the structure’s upper section – key phrase, ‘supposed to’. But as you can see from the video…things didn’t go exactly as planned.
Aside from a few puffs of smoke, little happened. Demolition company Adamo said the building should STILL fall…..it was just unclear when.
Best line of the day goes to retired Detroit sports journalist Terry Foster who, in a nod to the traditional failings of the NFL’s Lions, tweeted, “I guess the building is not used to an implosion on a Sunday until 1pm.” Okay, now THAT’s funny! ~ Jason
