The executive director of the Social Planning Council says 2018 could be another challenging year for homeless issues — but with lots of opportunities.
Annette Sharkey says the shelters are full at this point, including 33 extra mats.
“The numbers actually do coordinate wit the number of people we feel are still sleeping outside. The COOL Team estimates that to be 20 to 25 folks on a regular basis,” Sharkey told city council.
Sharkey says the numbers show there are not enough spaces for all the people to come in, but she adds funding announcements are expected over the coming months from seniors governments.
“2018 is going to be housing, housing and more housing. We are working on different applications. We know BC Housing and CMHC have funding coming, so we’re definitely prepared.”
