We should find out the name of the new arena at Kal Tire Place soon.
Vernon’s Recreation Services Director Doug Ross says the city and Kal Tire have reached agreement about the name.
He says it will be announced when the signage is ready to be installed.
An earlier suggestion that was used in the designs called it ‘Kal Tire Place North,’ given its location north of the existing Kal Tire Place arena which opened in 2001.
The new 13 million dollar, 400-seat facility is on target for completion by September.
“Ten months into the construction phase, the project is moving forward, on time and on budget. All exterior windows have been installed and the exterior entry and exit doors and large overhead doors are scheduled to be installed this week,” says Ross in a report to city council.
Ross says the project was able to take advantage of a grant from BC Hydro and high efficiency hot water tanks have been installed.
He says the installation of the HVAC systems is 95% complete, and the change rooms have been primed and painting is scheduled for this week.
Ross says a preliminary meeting is scheduled for March 15 to discuss the installation of the concrete (ice) slab.
“The work on the slab is tentatively scheduled for mid-April. The installation of the slab is a significant milestone in the building of the arena.”
