Face it, we’re hard on our computer keyboards…
Between the spilled coffee and constant dusting of crumbs, it’s a wonder the gadget lasts as long as it does. But good news!…Apple has patented a keyboard that is potentially immune to the “oops” of a tumbled beverage or the carnage of those chips n’ sandwiches.
How does it work? Apple’s engineers have fit a thin protective film between the key and the mechanism, effectively creating a barrier – that way, biscuit crumbs or any kind of liquid won’t work their way under the keys and wreak havoc….which, as anyone who has ever desperately tried to mop up an overturned Tim’s double-double can attest, havoc is a pretty good description for the aftermath. With this new creation, each time the key is pressed, the film expands outwards, further pushing any objects caught within it back out into the world.
But here’s the catch; the patent was filed back in 2016, so there’s no guarantee that Apple will ever actually market this new technology – but as one sitting here typing this blog with a hot cup o’ java close by…. here’s hoping we see this baby in stores. Soon. ~ Jason
