Cool temperatures and the late season snowfalls are keeping the City’s sports fields closed until mid-April. Residents are reminded to stay off the fields until they are officially open for the spring sports season.
Sports fields need an appropriate amount of time to dry out and the grass needs to be actively growing to ensure quality turf and avoid divots and holes which can lead to player injuries. The Apple Bowl Track is currently open, ball diamonds are scheduled to open April 6 and the remaining fields are scheduled to open Saturday, April 14, weather permitting.
Teams on the hunt for a place to play in the meantime can call 250-469-8827 to book space on an artificial turf field. For more information about Active Living and Culture programs and facilities, including booking fields, visit kelowna.ca/recreation.
