The Funtastic Society will still be providing annual grants to help local sports groups — but the funding will come later in the year.
Society co-executive director Akbal Mund says the non profit group normally awards the grants in April, but decided to make a change after seeing fewer applicants last year.
“And that’s why we decided to change it, so it’s more heightened with the event going on, and we can get people to start applying. We will also know how much money we have to give out,”Mund tells CJIB News.
Mund says the grants will be given-out after their July slo-pitch and music festival.
He says that will give them a better handle on how much money they have to disburse.
“The long term plan is to hand out grants during the event — which makes even more sense, ” adds Mund.
Funtastic provided $21,000 in grants to five groups last year, with the money coming from proceeds from the festival.
