Downtown Vernon is in for a house cleaning Friday morning.
City staff along with local agencies will don gloves and carry garbage bags to pick up whatever garbage and leftover winter debris they can find.
Shelly Brodie with the Downtown Vernon Association says volunteers will mainly hit the back alleys.
“So we will be going around picking up anything that does not belong in the back alleys. So if any of the businesses have things out there they want to keep, maybe put them away because we’ll be cleaning them completely out.”
The cleanup takes place from 7:30 am to 9 am.
Brodie says some of the alleys are not looking very well.
” Some of them are fairly dirty. We just want to get it all spiffy for Spring. We just want to make sure we get the back alleys cleaned up and then hopefully we can maintain them.”
Anyone who wants to volunteer should show up at the Community Safety Office on 31st Street and will be treated to a pancake breakfast after the cleanup.
The cleanup is an initiative of the Downtown Vernon Association, the Social Planning Council of the North Okanagan and Vernon Protective Services.
