Striking Lake City Casino workers in Vernon are holding a block party today and everyone is invited, says spokesperson Chelsea Leis.
“The idea behind it is we’ve just seen such an outrageous amount of support from out community and we wanted to reciprocate,” Leis says. “It’s totally free so come on down, unionized, non unionized, it doesn’t matter. Bring your kids, everyone is welcome.”
Leis says the party will be held along Anderson Way, near the casino, where striking workers have been picketing.
It will take place from 3-10 p.m. and will include a barbecue and an area set up for children’s games and face painting.
“We have permission to use city property, so that’s where we going to have the kids set up, on the grass off the road, and we’ll also have a space in the parking lot and you’ll see the tent set up there.”
While the striking workers are members of the BC Government Employees Union, Leis says other union representatives will be attending the party, including some from CUPE, CUP-W and the Iron Workers.
