We’re in the thick of winter, not enough daylight, many are dealing with cough, cold or flu and maybe not sleeping because the heater keeps kicking in and it’s loud???? Or maybe you’ve got too many gadgets on? My kids have been complaining about not sleeping well. I deal with insomnia quite frequently and my husband does too.. Now we know what we’ve been missing, CAMPING. New research supports the idea that modern technology can throw off our sleep cycles, but camping can help fix the problem.
In the journal Current Biology researchers found that even a short weekend camping trip can largely reset a person’s internal clock. Data revealed that the biological clocks of those who took part were winding down 2.5 hours earlier each day while camping, compared to when they were at home. “You hear a lot of people talk about light at night being bad, but we think that a lack of light during the day, might be just as harmful to a natural sleep pattern” stated researcher Kenneth Wright. the hope from Wright is that these results will inspire other larger studies to confirm the findings, as well as research into what lifestyle changes might best support a healthy sleep schedule.
