A small fire at Davison Orchard early last evening caused some excitement when smoke could be seen coming from the Bella Vista area.
Vernon Fire Rescue Captain Mike Stoll says fortunately it was small.
“Basically it was a 7 metre by 7 metre slash pile that caught on fire. We were able to extinguish it quite quickly before it spread anywhere else. We were quite fortunate. We had easy access and we were able to get on it right away.”
Captain Stoll says there was nothing out of ordinary in the pile.
” Just simply that it was one of their piles that they would burn annually but that they hadn’t done any burning since early spring.”
The cause is going down as undetermined.
Captain Stoll says it does serve as a reminder how dry it is out there and how easy a fire can start.
