Excitement is building for next month’s 58th annual Vernon Winter Carnival.
Just over 100 events are planned Feb 2 to 11, with the theme Carnival in Wonderland.
Event chair Deb White says there will be more free events than ever.
“That’s due to the Vernon community getting involved, and the theme is popular. There is so much at the Science Centre and the regional library. It’s just open the door to so many activities for them. And those are the free events, along with our traditional family day,” White told Beach Radio News at a media kick off event at the Fairfield Inn and Suites Tuesday.
White says ticket sales have been going well, with four events sold out.
“Suns N’ Cider is sold out, as is Unwined downtown, The Lego Lunch, and I believe the Mad Hatters Mother and Daughter Tea Party is sold out.”
There’s also 14 new events, including the Parka Party at Predator Ridge, The Boogie Wonderland Disco Party, Pool Tournament at the Green Pub, and Dinner Theatre featuring a humorous story about a ‘Wonderland Retirement Home.’
White says one change will see the hot air balloon events moved to the second week of carnival.
“It’s the North Okanagan Hot Air Balloon Society, they decided to do that. There was a little bit of push back but it’s their event.”
White says the change will allow more balloon operators to take part, with 14 expected to be here.
The balloon festival is scheduled for Feb. 8-10, while the popular Balloon Glow will be Friday Feb. 9.
