Language goes through phases, in the 90’s it was “tubular” and “bitchin”, and when I was in highschool my friends and I liked to abbreviate everything we could, like totes (totally) and others I won’t even get into. I will admit even though I’m not hip on the lingo anymore, I have used the term “literally” even when I was talking about something figuratively. It’s a bit annoying, but I don’t hate it this much.
A bar in New York has taken serious offence to this word and even implemented a new rule as to make sure it is never uttered inside the premises.
“Sorry but if you say the word ‘literally’ inside Continental you have 5 minutes to finish your drink and then you must leave. If you actually start a sentence with ‘literally’ you must leave immediately!!!”
I guess that’s one way to keep out unwanted clientele…
