The first weekend of Vernon Winter Carnival 2018 is over but many have memories and photos to cherish of the terrific events. On Friday night together with Beach Radio’s Jason & Jen, Vernon Vipers announcer Graham Turnball, and others, I took part in the History Trivia night at the Vernon Museum and Archives:
Saturday my family and I took in the Carnival Parade with “Wonderland” theme.
Then it was off to the Celebration of Talent event at the Vernon Rec Centre. Ruth Hoyt and all of the other volunteers, dancers, Queen Silverstar royalty, musicians and audience enjoyed the afternoon.
During the Celebration of Talent, I noticed a woman with a wonderful blue and sparkly carnival themed hat on and I complimented her on it. As we got to chatting, I found out that she Delores McNee and her sister Vivian Zwarych were there with their brother Alvin Timm. He later received a volunteer award at the Volunteer Appreciation event at the Vernon Lodge.
This Carnival Cop Joy, has been spreading joy at the carnival for 20 years! Carnival Chair Deb White and Special Events Co-oridnator Vicki Proulx and others had some terrific “Wonderland” themed costumes.
Some of the dancers at the Celebration of Talent event invited the audience to come up and learn some dance moves, truly capturing the carnival spirit! So many terrific dancers performed different styles of dance including tap.
Thanks to BEACH RADIO TEXTER Dave Drake for sharing the above parade day photos with us today.
