The Mayor of Lake Country expects the District will be approached by potential marijuana shop owners once recreational sales are allowed.
James Baker says there has been interest before and he’s not against dispensaries.
“We support the issue of people being able to get legal pot whether for recreational or medication. More research really needs to be done.”
But Lake Country will wait until it knows more from both the provincial and federal governments.
” We’ve had interest from people that thought they could set one up. We said you can but you take your chances because we’re not issuing business licenses. It was still illegal when they were approaching us.”
Baker also hopes that the government distinguishes between recreational and medicinal marijuana as it moves further with guidelines.
