A Vernon councillor is encouraging the political reps in the electoral areas to support Sunday openings at the regional library.
Dalvir Nahal says the 17-thousand residents of the BX, Silver Star and Swan Lake currently don’t help cover those costs, even though some of them use the service.
“I’m not so much calling them out, but I was just dis-heartened by the fact that we don’t want the library to close. We want it to be open on Sundays, and many families use it. We were just asking them to fund it because right now it’s just Vernon and Coldstream funding it,” Nahal tells CJIB News.
Nahal says she’s never heard why the Areas B and C don’t contribute to those fees, which have been in place for a few years.
“Coldstream has been great every year, whatever we ask for for or their percentage is. But the regional district — they have 17,000 people living there — and by not supporting the library, I feel like they’re not supporting their own residents who are making use of these resources.”
