A local RCMP officer has been honoured for his community service.
Corporal Yannik Lescarbeau has been presented with the 2018 Police Volunteer of the Year Award by Silver Star Rotary.
Lescarbeau has organized a charity outdoor hockey tournament at Apex Mountain since 2014 which has raised 77-thousand dollars for the BC Children Hospital Foundation for sick kids.

In the first three years that the event was held, it raised over $51,000. The 2017 event, held in December, involved 120 participants from all over the province and raised $26,462.75.
RCMP Superintendent Jim McNamara says Lescarbeau has spent a considerable amount of time with the media promoting the tournament to ensure its success.
“He has always proudly identified himself as a member of the RCMP in the many interviews he has provided. His involvement with the event and its benefit to such a worthy cause brings positive attention to the RCMP and this detachment,” says McNamara.
With the award, recipients are given $500 by the Silver Star Rotary to donate to a charity of their choice.
Cpl. Lescarbeau’s chosen charity is Okanagan Autism which is a local organization committed to improving the quality of life for individuals and families living with Autism.
