Well, that’s one way to plan a getaway. Not a SMART way, mind you…
A man from New Brunswick recently tried to escape from police by floating on a sheet of ice. The suspect assaulted someone in his home before fleeing. He then hopped on a floating chunk of ice in order to avoid the authorities. It’s when the ice started drifting out to sea (as captured in the image from CTV) that buddy had to know he was in trouble, right? Um……nope.
Fire trucks, quad bikes, ambulances, a water vessel, an airplane and a helicopter were all used to locate the suspect. Thirty firefighters, police officers and Coast Guard members attempted to rescue the man, but he refused to grab the line that firefighters threw to him from a riverbank.
He was eventually arrested when his piece of ice floated to shore.
Now if the punishment should indeed fit the crime, how about slapping the dude with the bill for the cost of this ‘rescue’? That oughta do it… ~ Jason
