Raw foods, Keto, Vegan, Paleo, Atkins…there are a lot of different diets on the market these days, what works for one person doesn’t always work for the next. But it’s safe to say there are new fads popping up daily telling you to eat this and not drink that, in the end I think most people just want to be relatively healthy.
I don’t subscribe to any “diet” but that doesn’t stop me from being curious about the latest trends in food consumption, so I was quite intrigued when I saw the headline “To be Healthy, Eat Like a Victorian Peasant.”
Researchers in the U.K. looked at the eating habits of people living in Britain in the mid 19th century. They found that eating wholesome foods such as fresh locally grown vegetables, potatoes, fish and a little bit of meat, was the best way to stay healthy.
The people following that diet typically lived in more rural, isolated areas and had lower death rates from tuberculosis.
So….are you going to eat like a 19th century peasant? Only if I’m allowed to sneak in a snickers every once and a while.
