Thousands of visitors will be coming to Vernon for the 34th annual Funtastic over the Canada Day long weekend.
The organizing committee has named the Village Green Hotel as the host hotel for the event, serving as an information hub for visitors.
Peter Kaz, the Hotel’s manager of special services, says they are proud to be involved.
“Our hotel has been here over 40 years. There is lots of different entities, we’ve got the liquor store, the spa, the restaurant, massive pool, massive gym. We’ve got a lot of different areas we’re excited to bring people to and assist people,” Kaz told a media conference at the hotel.
Funtastic will also be announcing other host businesses in the coming weeks as a way to get the community more involved in the event.
Society President Rob Ellis says having a host hotel is something that was done in the past, that they are bringing back.
“It enables Funtastic to be able to have a facility that can answer all the questions right directly in town for all our guests that come here, and we’ve got guests in every location around this town.”
Ellis says their music lineup will be announced soon.
“The music will be announced in a couple of weeks. We’ve just finalized our last few acts as of last night,” says Ellis.
The president says there will also be some changes to the event.
“Expect minor changes every year. An event like this doesn’t happened by staying stagnant every year, so we’ll be making some small changes. You guys will all get the news when we break the news,” says Ellis.
The 34th annual Funtastic, with 220 slo-pitch teams, will be held June 29 to July 2, 2018, with the headquarters at the DND fields in south Vernon.
