An evacuation order covering 12 Killiney Beach area properties has been rescinded.
The order was put in place last Saturday after groundwater and saturated soils caused a landslide on Westside Road North in the Killiney Beach area, forcing closure of the road and concern for a dozen properties below.
“After conducting geotechnical assessments on slope stability, the order was recommended to be rescinded,” says the Central Okanagan Regional District.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure is continuing to monitor and evaluate possible drainage issues throughout the Killiney Beach area, and will continue conducting onsite work.
Until further notice, single lane alternating traffic is in place through this area of Westside Road in Killiney Beach and is operating at a 50 per cent load restriction for commercial vehicle traffic.
The evacuation order for two Ewings Landing properties issued on Tuesday, May 1 remains in effect until further notice.
Until further notice, a section Westside Road at Ewings Landing is open to single lane alternating traffic and is operating at a 50 per cent load restriction for commercial vehicle traffic.
May 2 story:
A section of Westside Road closed in the Ewing’s Landing area north of Fintry has reopened to single lane alternating traffic.
A 50 per cent load restriction remains in place for commercial vehicles.
The road was closed last night for a geo-technical assessment of the slope after a washout yesterday took out part of the road.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure has determined the slope is stable enough to allow limited traffic through.
Two properties at Ewings Landing below Westside Road remain under Evacuation Order
No residents have been displaced by the order.
An evaluation and assessment of the slope stability above the two properties continues and when it is safe, the order will be rescinded.
