A 25 year old man from Penticton has been killed by a train in Lavington near Vernon.
Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP say the incident happened shortly after 3:30 Sunday afternoon on the railway tracks on Hill Road and Highway 6.
RCMP Corporal Yannick Lescarbeau says the train was moving slowly at the time but could not stop.
Corporal Lescarbeau says indications are the man may have been intoxicated and seen walking on the track moments before he was killed.
His name has not been released.
Lavington Fire department members attended the scene along with CN Police and RCMP.
Corporal Lescarbeau adds that walking on tracks where train operates is not only illegal but it has the potential for serious risks of injury or death.
