The community gardens at the Vernon campus of Okanagan College could be growing.
The Food Action Society, which operates the garden, wants to add an indigenous plants section at the site.
Mayor Jim Garlick says the society is seeking council’s support for the idea, as it tries to get a provincial grant.
“It would be indigenous plants with relationships to First Nations. It would be more of a tourist attraction. That’s what they’re putting it forward as, that people could come out and see what the different plants are,” says Garlick.
The mayor says council has a few questions about the program.
“Council just wanted the person asking for the letter of support, in charge of it, to come forward, and we’ll deal with that at the next council meeting.”
