The door hasn’t entirely closed yet on one of North America’s most beloved retailers – but there’s officially but one single foot keeping it open.
Yesterday (Sunday) marked the closure of Blockbuster Video’s final two locations in Alaska…traditionally a ‘hot’ spot for the retailer thanks to crazy long winters and slow WiFi. That means if you want a shot of nostalgia and long to visit the only remaining Blockbuster Video, your road trip won’t exactly be a long one, at least not from our home here in B.C…
‘Cause the last Blockbuster in existence is in Bend, Oregon.
Sandi Harding is the general manager of the Bend location, and good news for die-hard’s….she says they don’t plan to go anywhere, anytime soon. She told CNN that, in addition to older titles on the shelves, she wakes up early every Tuesday morning and personally purchases the newest titles to stock the shelves.
Just looking at the picture of rows & rows of DVD’s brings back a ton of memories; Friday nights, racing to our Vernon location, hoping to nab the final copy of the hottest flick before someone else got their mitts on it. Sigggghhhh.
Are you sad that Blockbuster is now oh-so-close to its final bow? Or did Netflix make this day inevitable? ~ Jason
