Coldstream council has given its blessing to an addition of indigenous plants at the community garden at Okanagan College.
The Food Action Society, which operates the garden, is applying for a provincial grant to expand the garden.
That’s hoped to include indigenous plants from Okanagan territory and help grow the area as a destination for tourists.
Council is providing a letter of support to go along with the grant application.
Council also approved a one thousand dollar grant to the Good Food Box Society.
The Society was seeking funding to help with start-up costs.
It helps area individuals and families have access to healthy fruits and vegetables.
Mayor Jim Garlick says council asked the Society to formally put in an application with its budget information just as a procedural measure.
It’s also being supplied with an application for future requests.
