Who is right in this situation?
A vehicle parks in a “no parking zone” outside a grocery store. When parking enforcement arrives to ticket the illegally parked vehicle, the driver says the vehicle will not fit in the parking spots, and she did not want to park in the disabled space. Further, the driver indicates she is just running inside to buy water. Parking enforcement maintains that vehicle is illegally parked, and ought to follow the rules.
The vehicle is an ambulance.
Normal regulations in Northwich, UK indicate that emergency vehicles are allowed to go about their duties without enforcement action being taken against them. This incident, however, took place on private property through a private parking enforcement firm.
A manager from the parking firm In question has apologized, and called the actions of the agent in the video a “mistake.” The ambulance service says they have not received any ticket.
Personally, I don’t think any ticket should have been issued, but still support the fundamental position of the parking agent – it is not fair to have rules for some, and different rules for others.
