Crews continue to build a wide containment line around this wildfire and it is approximately 75 percent complete.
The latest this morning lists the Mabel Creek at 252 hectares and out of control, but not threatening homes.
Crews are also establishing hose lay for wet-lining along the south flank and are working to establish helipads where needed.
This fire is located in an area where there are heavy fuels and closed canopies that can be challenging if there are flare ups. Steep terrain is also an issue and has limited some suppression operations in these areas.
Yesterday afternoon, the Mabel Creek wildfire showed extreme fire behaviour due to ongoing high temperatures and low relative humidity. Hopefully with the change in weather that will improve.
Resources are being reassigned to priority areas to minimize fire spread. Smoke is very visible from this wildfire.
A quick check this morning shows the largest of the fires burning in the Monashee grouping is the Sugar Mountain fire. Located 4 km east of Sugar Lake it sits at 332 hectares.
The Sugar Mountain wildfire is showing increased fire behaviour due to ongoing high temperatures and low relative humidity.Again that is hoped to be affected by the moist air moving in. Resources are being reassigned to priority areas to minimize fire spread. Smoke is very visible from this wildfire
The Harris Creek Fire southeast of Lumby is also uncontrolled and 211 hectares.
It’s the same status for the Sugar Mountain fire at 332 hectares.
The Monte Lake Fire northwest of Vernon is being held at 114 hectares.
The Gottfriedsen Mountain fire, west of West Kelowna, has been pumping out lots of smoke and showing extreme fire behaviour since igniting Thursday.
It’s last estimate was 550 hectares, and its led to an evacuation alert in the Pennask Lake and Hatheume Lake area.
Meantime, hundreds of residents in the Cariboo have been put on alert due to several growing fires in the Williams Lake, 100 Mile House and Quesnel areas.
Night operations took place overnight with 9 personnel as well as heavy equipment.
