Update: 12 pm:
Fire chief Ian Cummings say the cause was a broken natural gas connection.
He says it’s not known when the restaurant will reopen as it has to be checked over by a gas inspector.
The McDonald’s in Armstrong had to be shut down due to a fire Monday night.
It broke out on a grill in the kitchen at the restaurant on Smith Drive around 6:20 pm.
Fire chief Ian Cummings says his crew was able to knock the flames down.
“There is some smoke damage throughout the building, so they’ll have some clean-up to do. Some equipment was damaged by the fire but that was contained to the cooking area,” Cummings tells Beach Radio News.
Everyone was evacuated and there were no injuries.
Cummings says the cause is under investigation, but not suspicious.
McDonald’s is not saying how the fire will affect their operations in Armstrong.
