At approximately 7:38 PM Kelowna Fire Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting a large structure on fire in the 600 block of Webster Rd.
First arriving crews reported a large single story structure with heavy flames and smoke coming from half of the building.
Initial attacks were made from the exterior of the structure, defensive attack. Crews quickly knocked down the fire and where able to save half the structure and it’s contents.
No occupants were in the structure at the time of the fire. The building turned out to be a large woodworking building with numerous exposures surrounding it.
Approx. 150 gallons of assorted acetone, paint thinners and lacquer’s where in or near building during the fire which caused major concern.
18 personnel were on scene with 4 engines a Rescue unit, and a Command unit EHS, RCMP, and Fortis all where on scene.
½ the structure sustained major damage but most of the heavy machinery inside was saved in the undamaged part of the building.
Fire appears to have started in the staining/finishing area of the building. Kelowna Fire Investigators will be on scene this morning to find the cause.
