Residents get a chance to voice what they would like Ottawa to be focusing on at a townhall meeting in Vernon tonight.
North Okanagan Shuswap Member of Parliament Mel Arnold says the event at the Schubert centre is a way to gather information.
“I want to hear from anyone who wishes to attend to provide to me what the important issues are to them. Its one way I can reach out to the community,” Arnold tells Beach Radio News.
Arnold expects the housing and homelessness will be among the issues brought forward.
He feels he’s done what he can on those issues, including supporting the Social Planning Council’s effort to have Vernon recognized as a designated community to get more federal funding for housing.
“For the Housing First program so that we can get people into housing which is the first step to alleviating all the other issues that go along with homelessness,” adds the Conservative MP.
The forum is from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Schubert Centre on 30th Avenue.
