Mets third baseman Todd Frazier made an unbelievable catch at Dodger Stadium on Monday night, diving into the stands to nab a foul ball off the bat of Alex Verdugo.
Or…..at least he made it LOOK like he caught the ball.
You have to feel bad for the ump on this one….it’s almost impossible to tell if a guy actually catches a ball when he disappears behind a wall – and so, in this video, SNY’s Steve Gelbs breaks down the tape to see what really happened…
As you can see, that ‘ball’ that Frazier came up with? Turns out it was a rubber ball that happened to roll out of a fan’s bag as Frazier came barreling into the stands. Though the ball temporarily hit the player’s glove, it was the rubber one that Frazier emerged with, showing it to the umpire to ‘prove’ that me made the catch. The real ball? Some fan ended up with that souvenir.
An impressive display of quick thinking? Or cheater? You decide.. ~ Jason
