Ruth Hoyte is the first woman to announce her intention to run for a council position in Coldstream October 20th.
She says honouring the significance of the community’s agricultural roots will be a focus of her campaign.
“Coldstream has more than 100 years of history and I believe it is important to honor our roots and support the significance of agriculture in our community. The motto of “Rural Living at it’s Best” can only be enhance thru thoughtful planning, appropriate land use, effective service delivery at a manageable cost, along with a positive relationship with our neighbours and stakeholders.
Hoyte brings some civic experience, having served five year on the Coldstream Advisory Planning Committee.
“I hope to bring forward that Coldstream passion and provide meaningful discussion at Council table in developing a community showcasing it’s best”
Ruth Hoyte is also a former Woman of the Year in Greater Vernon, being given the honour for 2013.
She has served with various local agenies and association including as president for Vernon Women in Business and as as a director on Centreville Neighborhood Committee for Gateway Shelter, the Vernon Winter Carnival Society, and the Vernon Art Gallery Board.
Hoyte has lived in Coldstream since 1974.
