Sept 11th, it’s hard to pass this day by without thinking about where you were 17 years ago when you heard the news. It’s also hard to find the words to express your condolences. When tragedy strikes, I’m always reminded of a quote by Mister Rogers: “When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'”
It’s a comforting sentiment, and it’s also true. When 9/11 happened, there were so many helpers. Including the entire town of Gander, Newfoundland. You might have heard this story, but you might have not. When planes were not allowed to enter the United States on September 11th, many of them were diverted to a small Canadian town on the East coast.
It’s not a new video, but it’s a good reminder of the generosity of strangers. If you have a minute today, I ask you to remember. Remember those who have fallen, but also remember the helpers.
