I remember when I first found out that you could put mayonnaise on French fries, I saw a friend do it and thought it was horrifying. That was until I tried it, and loved it. At that point in my life I didn’t know that mayo was the base for most delicious sauces, tartar, garlic aoili, remoulad, the list goes on. I started to make my own versions of the fry sauce I had just been introduced to, mayo and ketchup, mayo and hot sauce, or even…all three together.
A few months ago Twitter went crazy when a photo of Heinz “Mayochup” was shared online, and after 500, 000 fans voted yes on Heinz subsequent poll, the condiment was bound for North America. The product will be on U.S. shelves soon, and possibly in the U.K. (if more than 500,000 people vote yes).
Unfortunately for us Canadians, there will be no Mayochup sold in the great white north…and there isn’t even a Twitter poll to see if we want it. I guess we will either have to drive to the states to get a taste! Or you know, just make our own.
