RCMP have arrested a man for allegedly stealing from motor vehicles in Vernon’s Okanagan Landing.
Police were called around 1:30 this morning by a vehicle owner who’s truck was being broken into in the 2700 block of Lakeshore Road
The suspect fled on foot, which led to a multi-unit response from RCMP, resulting in the arrest of a 27 year old man
“Extensive patrols were made for the suspect to which he was observed walking into dark pathways and between homes, in an effort to evade detection by police,” says Cst. Kelly Brett.
Brett says the strong response was deemed necessary given the recent increase in theft from vehicles throughout the city.
The suspect — who is known to police — is facing possible charges of possession of break in instruments, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property and trespassing by night.
RCMP are reminding residents to clear any belongings out of their vehicles, including things like coins or bills, cigarettes, clothing and other items of value.
“Even the small valued items are attractants for thieves. If there is nothing left in the vehicle, the vehicle is less likely to be a target of theft from autos,” adds Brett.
