There will be one less candidate on the list for Vernon councillor Oct. 20th.
The City of Vernon says its received confirmation from the province that David Hesketh’s name can be removed from the ballot.
Hesketh died last week of cancer, just prior to the deadline for candidates to withdraw, creating a unique situation that city officials say they had never encountered before.
“Today we received ministerial confirmation that Mr. Hesketh’s name can be removed from the ballot,” says City communications officer Nick Nilsen. “The ministry required the death certificate, which they have, and the Minister was required to sign off on the final decision, which has now happened.”
It means there will be 20 candidates running for the six councillor spots, along with four for mayor.
