The amount of funding O’Keefe Ranch gets from Vernon, will be decided by the next city council.
Mayor Akbal Mund says the plan was to reduce the subsidy in half next year — to 50-thousand dollars.
“At some point council is going to have to ask itself ‘Do we start supporting other groups who mean a lot?’ Whether it’s Winter Carnival who has a big economic impact on our community, we start supporting them with more money,” Mund told Beach Radio News.
Councillor Scott Anderson led a motion for the next council to consider extending the ranch’s 100-thousand dollar grant next year, which will be discussed at budget time.
“When I first came in (four years ago) the plan was to drop it the first year I was in to $150,000, and slowly we’ve gotten nowhere really,” adds Mund.
Council’s original plan was to reduce the subsidy to $10,000 by 2020 and to zero by 2021
A new leadership team took over the Ranch in April.
