Seattle free safety Earl Thomas is a beast while playing football. And as it turns out, his attitude is a bit of a beast OFF the field as well.
On Sunday afternoon, Thomas went down with leg injury while trying to defend a pass in the end zone to an Arizona receiver. In obvious pain, players from both teams gathered around the man down, offering support and prayers. He was carted off the field, it was clear he was done for the season….and that’s when things got especially interesting.
In exiting the playing area, Earl Thomas appeared to flip the bird towards his own team’s sideline. Take a look…
Was this guy showing his middle digit to fellow teammates? Probably not. I’d guess it was directed towards Seattle management. A little background here…
Earl Thomas wanted a contract extension this season, and by most accounts, he deserved it. However, the Seahawks wouldn’t budge. He held out most of training camp, hoping to find common ground in negotiations, finally reporting to the team a week prior to opening day, obviously frustrated that the organization didn’t have his back. So THAT’S likely the reason for the gesture….and those signing the paychecks is the best suggesting as to whom it was directed towards.
In other words, there WAS an ‘extension’ in regards to Earl Thomas….only it wasn’t the one he wanted, and he was the one ultimately offering it… ~ Jason
