The new VegPro salad products plant in Coldstream will be able to have more signs than what’s normally allowed for a farm property.
Coldstream council has approved several variances to allow the company to put up four signs on its Ricardo Road site including one that will be illuminated.
“Their factory is located on the highway. They have a lot of trucks that come to and from it. And they want to make sure that the trucks actually see it, have time to slow down and make the intersection,” says Mayor Jim Garlick.
Garlick says the signs will also promote the company’s “Fresh Attitude” products that are being sold in some local stores.
The mayor says a company official has told council the illuminated sign won’t cause light pollution in that rural area.
“There will be concerns that people don’t want it lighting up the sky. He assured us — he brought photos from their Quebec operation to show us — and I think it’s appropriate for the area.”
