Voters have given the go ahead to borrowing money for a cultural centre in Vernon, but a local politician says nothing will happen quickly.
Re-elected Area B director — and RDNO chair — Bob Fleming says the second element is to raise the rest of the cost.
“The project is predicted to be about a 40 million dollar project. The loan authorization was for up to 25 million, which means there’s a significant fundraising effort that’s needed and that is not just private fundraising but it will mean grant applications to senior level of governments as well.”
RDNO has said work on the new building won’t start until all of the funding has been secured which could take a few years.
“Yeah, but I think there’ll be a lot of excitement around it at first and I think there’s be a lot of effort in that direction.”
Meanwhile, with new and different members coming on board, the regional district will be having an information session in the next while.
Bob Fleming says the municipalities will be appointing their board reps over the next week or so.
“There’ll be a meeting to look at what direction the board wants to take. I think a meeting will take place to say this is what we’re doing now, then take input on what would be the priorities going forward.”
New members include Amanda Shatzko and Denis Delisle, the new directors for Area C and F respectively.
New Vernon mayor Victor Cumming has to appoint three city reps to the board.
