Armstrong’s popular mayor has been given as much time as he needs before returning to the job.
Chris Pieper and his family are grieving over the sudden death of his wife of 47 years,Anita, last week.
Councillor Gary Froats was the acting mayor for council’s inaugural meeting Tuesday.
“He is still the mayor. I’m filling in while he’s not there. He can be sworn in any time. it doesn’t have to be a special meeting to do it,” says Froats, one of five incumbents reelected to council.
Pieper (pictured) was recently acclaimed to a fourth term as the city’s mayor.
“He can take as much time as he wants, but knowing Chris, I’m sure he will be back shortly,” adds Froats.
Pieper tells Beach Radio in an email, he will be back for council’s next meeting November 13th.
Among the motions council did approve was the mayor’s committee appointments which included Shirley Fowler again appointed as Armstrong’s rep on the Regional District of North Okanagan Board.
