The Vernon Civic Arena could be nothing but rubble in a few short weeks.
A crew has been working on decommissioning and demolishing the 80 year old building since early September.
The project should be done by Nov 20th.
Some of the left over material will be put to other uses.
“The exterior is mostly cement and the intent is that it will be crushed and used as backfill. This will use up about 25% of the material. The rest will be used as backfill at the landfill,” says City spokesperson Nick Nilsen.
Nilsen says the project is moving forward according to plan.
“Nov. 20th is still the projected completion date.”
It will be up to the new Vernon council to decide what the site is used for, with suggestions of using it for a park, or for a public facility.
